Defensive contribution pays 2 points in a match where a player reaches 10 defending actions as a defender, or 12 as a midfielder or forward. Tackles, interceptions, clearances, blocks and recoveries all count, and the recoveries are why some midfielders clear it far more easily than defenders do.
This table ranks by per 90 minutes, not by season total, because that is how the rule pays. A nailed starter on 9 per 90 almost never collects it even with a big total, while someone on 14 per 90 collects it nearly every time he plays. The green numbers are the ones above their own threshold.
Players under 180 minutes are left out on purpose: with a handful of minutes the per 90 figure is meaningless and would fill the top of the table with substitutes. That floor is half the minutes available so far, so it rises as the season goes.
